Abstract
The mean transfer rate of 24Na from blood to cerebrospinal fluid was found to be 3.5% in patients with depressive illness and 3.2% in patients with schizophrenia. The level of hydroxyindoles in the cerebrospinal fluid and blood of the patients with depressive illness were 12.2 mug/ml and 114 mg/ml., respectively, while the levels associated with schizophrenia were 11.5m [mu]g/ml. and 82m [mu]g/ml. None of these differences between the two groups of patients are significant. Exercise increases the transfer rate and the levels of 5-hydroxyindoles in cerebropsinal fluid. Keywords
