Antigenic Determinant Analysis of Bovine Serum Albumin

Abstract
The reactions of rabbit antibodies against bovine serum albumin with the homologus antigen and 7 cross-reacting albumins were investigated by precipitation, gel-diffusion and passive hemagglutination. From the combined results 13 different antigenic determinants could be established for bovine serum albumin. Four only discernible by hemagglutination-inhibition tests may represent single determinants on each molecule. The molar initial combining ratio obtained in quantitative precipitation which was not very different for the homologous and the cross-reacting antigens varied between 4.9 and 6.3.
