Abstract
A further examination of the Co II spectrum, based on the previous work of Meggers, has been made. A magnetic analysis shows that Meggers' classification of the terms now called d7pF05, D05 should be interchanged, except for the term F505. Since Meggers' results were obtained from intensity rules, the author's F5F05 and F5D05 multiplets show irregular intensities. The strongest lines in these multiplets are, respectively, Fn5F0n15 and Fn5D0n5. The magnetic analysis also shows that Meggers' terms D3 should be d7sP5 and that his P3, D13, and F3 should be partly d7pP05 and D05. In addition, the terms d7sF3, d7pD03, F03, G03, S05, P05, D05, and the lowest terms d8F3 have been found. The location of the second member of the d7sF5F3 series gives an I. P. of 16.9 volts from d7s to d7 and 17.3 volts from d8 to d7, in practically exact agreement with the predictions of Dr. H. N. Russell.
