Abstract
The metabolic pattern of radioactive diethylstilbestrol, labeled with C 14 in the methylene position, in the adult, female rat was investigated. Release of a conjugated derivative of this labeled estrogen via the bile represents a major path of metabolism. Evidence supporting the theory of enterohepatic circulation of estrogens was obtained. Regardless of the solvent in which the estrogen is administered orally, absorption occurs by a route other than the lymph system, most probably the portal system. Keywords
