FUNGAL ENDOCARDITIS FOLLOWING CARDIAC SURGERY

Abstract
Candida, parakrusei endocarditis occurred 3 months after aortic valvuloplasty. Amphotericin B was fungicidal in vitro for the organism. Blood cultures were sterile following daily intravenous injections of 15 mg of this drug per kilogram body weight. But the organism remained viable in abscesses located on the aortic valve. The patient''s death was attributed to multiple emboli from this site.
