Assessing the leaching characteristics of stabilized toxic waste by use of thin layer chromatography

Abstract
A novel thin layer Chromatographic procedure requiring no tedious, chemical analysis has been developed for the rapid qualitative assessment of toxic waste stabilization by inorganic fixation processes. The method has been assessed for various toxic components commonly found in hazardous waste. The extent of mobilization through the thin layer of the materials tested is in general agreement with the degree of fixation and the results compare favourably with traditional column leaching tests.
