Abstract
The actinomycete producing a new antibiotic, chloromycetin, was originally isolated from soil obtained from Venezuela. This same antibiotic was obtained from an actinomycete isolated from a compost soil on a farm at the Illinois Agric. Expt. Station at Urbana. The antibiotic was obtained in a crystalline form. The organism was found to be closely related to Sireplomyces laven-aulae, which produces streptothricin. An apparently identical antibiotic has been obtained by Parke, Davis and Company.
