Vibrational Spectra of Single Crystals. Polymorphic Solids of Cyclohexane

Abstract
Polarized infrared spectra of a single crystal of cyclohexane solid II and the infrared and laser Raman of polycrystalline solid II at 90°K have been measured. The observed splittings and the infrared polarization results indicate a unique site and factor group for this phase. The suggested crystal structure is orthorhombic D2h . The infrared spectrum of a single crystal of the solid I phase has also been recorded and the results are found to agree with previous x‐ray and Raman studies. Pressure techniques employing miniaturized instrumentation were used to grow single crystals of solids I and II.
