Thymic Dysplasia in Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

To the Editor: Severe acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), associated with opportunistic infections or Kaposi's sarcoma (or both), was described in 1981 in male homosexuals from California and New York.1 2 3 4 Since these early reports appeared nearly 1000 additional patients have been identified. Although most cases have been reported from the United States, the syndrome has been recognized in other countries as well.
