Polarization of Protons fromB10(d, p)B11,C12(d, p)C13, and Spin-Flip Stripping

Abstract
The polarization of proton groups corresponding to the ground and first excited states in the reactions B10(d, p)B11 and C12(d, p)C13 have been measured for an incident deuteron energy of 7.8 Mev. With the exception of the first excited state of B11, the sign of the polarization for six known cases is consistent with the relation P=(±) when jn=ln12, the axis of quantization being defined by n=kp×kd. The anomalous polarization of the first excited state of B11 is interpreted as evidence for a spin-flip exchange process in the stripping reaction.
