Anticholinesterases in Blood and Cattle Grubs from Cattle Treated with Ronnel1

Abstract

Blood and cattle grubs from cattle treated with ronnel were analyzed for anticholinesterase metabolites by enzyme assay of intact paper chromatograms. Ronnel and its oxygen analog were detected in the blood while the cattle grubs contained ronnel and an unidentified anticholinesterase. The latter could be produced alsoin vitroby incubating ronnel with grub tissue. No oxygen analog could be detected in the grubs even though present concurrently in the blood of cattle receiving oral doses of ronnel at twice the recommended therapeutic rate. The possible role of the anticholinesterase in the systemic action of ronnel is as yet unknown
