Smooth eye movements in the absence of a moving visual stimulus.

Abstract
Two normal subjects were instructed to move their eyes as rapidly and smoothly as possible between two small light sources 30[degree] apart. Their eye movements were recorded by means of a modified version of the "Ophthalmograph" eye movement camera. Records showed eye movements fitting in all respects the conventional description of smooth or pursuit movements, although it has generally been believed that such movements require for their initiation the presence of a moving visual stimulus.
