Abstract
We present examples of two-dimensional crystals with thirteen to eighteen strong electron scatterers per unit cell which have almost perfect twelvefold, tenfold, and eightfold diffraction patterns in the regions in space where current experiments are performed. These examples show that it is at present premature to identify the recently discovered octagonal and dodecagonal phases as quasicrystals.
