Synthesis and crystal structure of a novel tetranuclear complex of gold(I) with o-carborane derivatives as ligands

Abstract
Treatment of the dinuclear complex [(AuCl)2{B10H10C2(PPh2)2}] in dichloromethane with 1,2-dimercapto-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecarborane and Na2CO3 results in the formation of the tetranuclear complex [Au4(S2C2B10H10)2{(PPh2)2C2B10H10}2]; the structure was confirmed by X-ray studies and shows an eight-membered Au4S4 ring with a short transannular gold–gold interaction.
