Abstract
Reaction of molybdenum trioxide with hydrogen peroxide followed by 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2-(1H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU) gave the complex MoO5. DMPU. H2O. Dehydration followed by reaction with one equivalent of pyridine afforded the stable crystalline complex MoO5. Py. DMPU (MoOPD), the structure of which was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. This complex has been used as an efficient oxidant of enolates to α-hydroxy carbonyl compounds.
