Oxodiperoxymolybdenum(pyridine)-1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone (MoO5. Py . DMPU): A Safer Alternative to MoOPH for the α-Hydroxylation of Carbonyl Compounds

Abstract

Reaction of molybdenum trioxide with hydrogen peroxide followed by 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2-(1H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU) gave the complex MoO₅. DMPU. H₂O. Dehydration followed by reaction with one equivalent of pyridine afforded the stable crystalline complex MoO₅. Py. DMPU (MoOPD), the structure of which was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. This complex has been used as an efficient oxidant of enolates to α-hydroxy carbonyl compounds.
