Neutral Meson Production innpCollisions

Abstract
The angular distribution of neutral pions formed by 400-Mev neutrons in the process n+pd+π0 has been measured using an experimental arrangement in which both of the π0 decay gamma-rays are detected in coincidence with the deuteron. The results can be described in the center-of-mass system by the function cos2θ+0.2. The agreement between this distribution and the π+ distribution of the process p+pd+π+, which has been measured by Whitehead and Richman and by Durbin, Loar, and Steinberger, gives evidence in support of the hypothesis of charge independence in meson-nucleon interactions.
