Abstract
Plasma osmolality and serum sodium concentrations were studied in 30 children with a variety of cardiac abnormalities who underwent selective angiocardiography. A significant increase of osmolality occurred, but there were no significant changes in sodium concentration. The pathologic effects of hypertonic solutions including contrast media are discussed and it is concluded that hypertonicity is a preventable factor in serious reactions seen after angiocardiography. Keywords
