Factors Contributing to the Difference in Propylthiouracil Goitrogenesis in Rats and Guinea Pigs

Abstract
The rate of incorporation of I131 into the protein of surviving rat and guinea pig thyroid tissue in vitro was utilized as a measure of thyroid hormone synthesis. Evidence is presented consistent with the hypothesis that the relative refractoriness of the guinea pig to thiouracil goitrogenesis is the result of slower peripheral utilization of thyroid hormone.
