Abstract
A diabetogenic dose of alloxan when injd. into dogs 30 min. or several hrs. after pancreatectomy did not cause any hypoglycemic phase. Clamping of the pancreatic blood supply during and for 5 min. after the injn. of alloxan also prevents hypoglycemia. Partial pancreatectomy alleviates the hypoglycemic reaction in rabbits. These observations are indicative of the pancreatic origin of alloxan hypoglycemia. Ligation of the pancreatic ducts fails to protect the islets against alloxan damage.
