Abstract
General selection rules for the excitation of spin-polarized photoelectrons by circularly polarized light are derived for several points of high symmetry in the Brillouin zone of nonmagnetic crystals. The selection rules allow for the incorporation of hybridization effects and yield criteria for the production of a large net spin polarization. Keywords
