STUDIES OF MOUSE POLYOMA VIRUS INFECTION

Abstract
In 8 laboratory mouse colonies, polyoma virus antibody was found to be highly prevalent in some, infrequent in other, and absent in still other colonies. Frequency of infection was correlated with the intensity of exposure of mice to experimental work with polyoma virus or transplanted mouse tumors. Infection was found primarily in mice over 3 to 6 months of age. There was no correlation of infection with particular mouse strains or with sex. The epidemiologic studies indicated no evidence of etiologic relationship between polyoma virus and spontaneous leukemia in AKR mice.
