A Cytochemical Study of the "Volutin Granules" in Protozoa

Abstract
The so-called volutin granules in the cytoplasm of trypano-somes and haemogregarines are the site of accumulated ribo-nucleic acid. This substance, which is found characteristically in the cytoplasm of all embryonic cells and of all very active adult cells, undoubtedly plays an important part at certain stages in the development of protozoa.
