Abstract
A study has been carried out of 42 episodes of cardiac arrest related to 90 000 otorhinolaryngological operations. The basic pathology, factors precipitating the arrest, and the results of treatment are analysed. Clinical areas presenting special problems are the surgery of cancer of the postcricoid area, deliberate hypotension, anaesthesia for laryngoscopy and respiratory obstruction.
