Anisotropic thermoelectric power of AuSn

Abstract
The absolute thermoelectric power of single crystals of AuSn has been measured between 2•5°K and room temperature for various orientations with respect to the hexagonal axis. The results exhibit a very pronounced anisotropy. A maximum is found in the a direction around 25† and attributed to anisotropic phonon-drag effects. The temperature dependence and the anisotropy are discussed, and some speculations are presented regarding the electronic structure of AuSn.
