Abstract
The effect of γ-irradiation on the potency of five semisynthetic penicillins possessing anti-pseudomonal action has been examined with a view to their radiation-sterilization. Whilst carfecillin sodium and piperacillin sodium may be safely irradiated at the commonly employed sterilization dose of 2.5 Mrads, the other three antibiotics examined, namely, azlocillin sodium, mezlozillin sodium and ticarcillin disodium, display reduced potency at this dose level. The use of a lower radiation dose for these three compounds is not excluded. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
