Abstract
Adrenal regeneration hyper-tension which follows unilateral nephrectomy and adrenalectomy and contralateral adrenal enucleation of weanling rats receiving 1% sodium chloride solution in lieu of drinking water, does not occur if acute adrenal cortical insufficiency is avoided. It is concluded, therefore, that this form of hypertension is not a consequence of any abnormal activity of the regenerating adrenal but of the superimposed effect of acute cortical insufficiency. It is suggested that the condition is comparable to and probably a result of potassium depletion or possibly other electrolyte disturbances imposed on the other factors which induce the renal deficiency responsible for the development of hypertension.
