Preliminary Evidence of Resistance of High-Amylose Corn to the Angoumois Grain Moth1

Abstract
Angoumois grain moths (Sitotroga cerealella (Oliv.)) were reared on corn in pint jars in the laboratory. Ears of corn containing from 0% to 7.5% amylase4were used. Moths placed on the high-amylose kernels produced larvae that developed more slowly, fewer moths reached the adult stage, and the adults weighed less than the moths from normal corn, which has an amylose content of about 27%. The possibility of employing this insect for separating kernels with different amylose contents is discussed.
