Response of the Pig to APF, B12 and B12b

Abstract
A corn, peanut meal, mineral, and vitamin (A, D, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, choline, and folic acid) basal ration was fed to 20-lb. pigs. A mixture of B12 and B12b was of no benefit when administered by injn. or orally to the pig fed the basal ration during a 40-day period. Supplementation with Lederle APF (animal protein factor) prevented a diarrhea which occurred periodically with the other pigs on expt. The pigs fed APF exhibited a smoother hair coat and had more bloom. Further evidence was obtained to show that the Lederle APF contains a factor(s) other than Bl2 or Bi2b.
