Abstract
Gamma-rays of energy 2.594±0.015 mev have been observed following the inelastic scattering in 19F of neutrons in the energy range 3.2 to 3.7 mev. They are attributed to a level at 2.791±0.015 mev which decays principally by a transition to the second excited state at 197 kev. The cross section for production of these gamma rays has been measured as a function of neutron energy and the result compared with the predictions of the Hauser-Feshbach model for different values of the spin of the level. It is concluded tentatively that the spin of the 2.79 mev level is either 9/2 or 7/2.
