HEREDITARY TUMOR IN JAPANESE MORNING GLORY

Abstract
Many individuals of Japanese morning glory strain 056 exhibited tumor-like shoot development at the cotyledonary stage. The dominant gene Blown (B) and recessive genes delicate (dl) and feathered (fe) are present in this strain. The coexistence of Blown and feathered genes in homozygous condition may be related to the occurrence of the tumor. The tumor tissues grew slowly on modified White''s agar medium, and the addition of yeast extract stimulated the growth considerably.
