Indirect Determination of the Middle Ear Pressure:The Normal Middle Ear Pressure. A Study of 86 Cases

Abstract
A new method for the indirect determination of the pressure in the middle ear is described. The basic principle is a recording of the maximum drum movement velocity and its volume deviation during changes of the ambient pressure. The accuracy of the method has been analysed in a control material. The normal middle ear pressure has been studied in 86 persons with normal ears and has been compared with the tubal function. When the tubal function is perfect the middle ear pressure is kept at the ambient pressure level, while in subjects with a less good tubal function the middle ear pressure is more varied.
