Abstract
In the gauge, the Abelian gauge theory QED allows one to separate the gauge-dependent and gauge-invariant vector potentials in a simple manner. It is found that the pseudodynamics of the gauge-variant sector is not sufficient to confine charged particles. The question of confinement devolves upon the form of dynamics postulated for the gauge-invariant vector potentials.
