I Failure of Neurohypophysial Hormones To Influence Prolactin Secretionin Vitro1

Abstract
Neither oxytocin nor vasopressin influenced prolactin production by rat anterior pituitary tissue in vitro, indicating that neurohypophysial hormones are not involved in the regulation of prolactin secretion. The anterior pituitary explants synthesized about 10 times as much prolactin each day as they contained at the beginning of culture, clearly illustrating the independence of prolactin secretion from hypothalamic or other in vivo influence.
