Abstract
In the rat, adrenalectomy leads to a rise in the renal threshold for the ketone bodies so that the urine may be almost free of these compounds while the blood ketone levels are very high. Assuming a reduction in the blood ketone level to be due to less ketogenesis and not increased ketone body oxidation, the blood ketone levels after adrenalectomy indicate only a slight lowering of the ketone production during fasting after removal of these glands. Studies of the blood ketone levels as well as the urine excretion show little effect of adrenalectomy upon the ketogenic action of ant. pituitary extracts. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
