Fractionally charged kinks in a 1: 3 Peierls system

Abstract
The electronic structure of fractionally charged kinks in a Peierls system with commensurability 3 is analyzed. The existence of an electronic state in each of the two gaps separating the three bands of the electrons is established using a Green's-function method. Related properties of the kinks are discussed.
