COMPARATIVE STUDIES WITH RAT-LIVER CELL LINES OF METABOLISM OF SAFROLE, A NATURAL HEPATOCARCINOGEN AND METABOLITES AND ANALOGS

Abstract

Metabolism by sexed rat liver cell lines of the food additive safrole, a natural hepatocancerogen and metabolites and analogs were studied and compared by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The epoxide-diol route was evidenced for safrole, isosafrole and eugenol as well as the induction of drug metabolizing enzymes by tested compounds.
