Lymphomas in the Wistar Rat After Intrapleural Inoculation of Silica

Abstract
Crystalline silica was injected into the pleural cavity of standard and specific pathogen-free (SPF) Wistar rats; 39 of 95 SPF rats and 31 of 94 standard rats developed reticuloendothelial tumors, while another third had a “hvperplestic reaction.” The distribution of the silica and of the tumor masses is described together with the histology. Results from an inhalation experiment are briefly compared.
