Some Effects of Depletion and Repletion in Proteins on Body Fluids in Adult Dogs.

Abstract
Total circulating plasma albumin decreased markedly, but total circulating globulins decreased only slightly below control values in protein-depleted dogs. These changes were accompanied by a reduction in plasma vol. and an increase in available fluids. The nutritional edema was corrected rapidly by repletion. In the depleted dog, less urinary N was excreted than in the normal control. During repletion, the excretion increased gradually as the result of decreased retention of dietary N and increased excretion of N from the body stores.
