Abstract
Two dogs were partially hypophysectomized, the exact extent being determined by histological examination at autopsy. The basal metabolic rate was lower than normal, the extent of lowering being dependent upon either the amount of injury to the tuber cinereal region or upon the amount of anterior lobe tissue present. The specific dynamic action of beef heart was not below but rather slightly above normal when calculated as calories increase over basal. Both dogs showed a decreased tolerance to insulin, the degree of decrease being roughly proportional to the amount of anterior lobe tissue present. The dogs exhibited no hypoglycemia and showed a decreased glucose tolerance. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
