Estimation of Trapped Plasma With I131 Albumin; Critique of Methods

Abstract
Evaluation of the error of the hematocrit due to trapped plasma is most reliably investigated with solns. free of erythrocyte penetrable material. Under the conditions of centrifugation used in this study, a detn. of the error by a "direct method" gave values not in excess of 2% at normal hematocrit levels. With solns. containing erythrocyte penetrable activity, apparently higher estimates are obtained. Calculations by the indirect method give wide variations confirming previously observed and theoretically calculated results.
