Abstract
Two patients were injected with 1 cc. and 1.5 cc. of surgical pituitrin into the 3rd ventricle and severe reactions followed. In subsequent experiments the patients were first given tribromethanol (avertin) per rectum and the usual narcosis produced. Introduction of pituitrin into the ventricles 11/2 to 2 hrs. after the administration of the tribromethanol (avertin) now failed to produce the typical pituitrin response. Tribromethanol acts on centers in the dien-cephalon and serves to counteract the stimulatory responses to pituitrin injected into the ventricles. Keywords
