Calculation of the Constants of the Three-Electrode Thermionic Vacuum Tube

Abstract

Calculation of the Constants of the Three-Electrode Thermionic Vacuum Tube or Audion.—Given the characteristic equation of such a device as $I_p=\kappa {\left(\frac{E_p}{\mu }+E_g\right)}^{\eta }$ it is shown that the value of the amplification constant $\mu$ is practically independent of the density of the space charge. It therefore follows that $\mu$ can be calculated in accordance with well-known principles in electrostatics from the dimensions of the tube. The calculation of $\mu$ as well of $\kappa$ is carried out for four classes of tube structures.
