Abstract
Vibrio spp. were isolated from poults that had been clinically diagnosed as affected with transmissible enteritis. The symptoms, lesions, and mortality associated with transmissible enteritis in turkey poults were produced by oral inoculation of vibrio cultures, and vibrio were reisolated from the infected poults. Vibrio organisms may be recovered from carrier birds for at least 20 weeks following oral inoculation of day-old poults. Serological studies suggest that there are at least 3 serologically different strains. The incubation period of this disease may be as short as 48 hrs.
