Studies in furan chemistry. Part IV. 2,2′-Bifurans

Abstract
The preparation and spectral characteristics of a number of 2,2′-bifurans are described. Symmetrically substituted bifurans were prepared by the Ullmann reaction and the unsymmetrically substituted bifurans by the construction of the second ring utilising the β-keto-ester substitutent of furoyl acetates. The isolation of a trimer from the Ullmann reaction of an iodopyrrole is described.
