Abstract
Dried apricots yielded 50-80 mgm. carotin and 2-3 mgm. lycopin per kgm. by Kuhn and Brockmann''s quantitative colori-metric method. The high melting point, corr. 183[degree], and optic examination indicated the presence of pure [beta]-carotin, and a small amt. of probably [gamma]-carotin. A colorless accompanying product, probably hentriacontane, was isolated. For the first time the proportion "much carotin: little lycopin" has been observed. Apricots are to be regarded as a good source of vitamin A.
