Antithrombic Activity of Chicken Plasma Induced by Estrogenic Substances

Abstract
The plasma of laying hens was found to exhibit a heparin-like inhibitory effect upon the inter-action of thrombin and fibrinogen. Similar antithrombic activity was induced in chickens of either sex and any age by parenteral admn. of synthetic estrogens. The effect of the estrogenic compounds was inhibited by simultaneous admn. of estrogen antagonists. The substance responsible for the heparin-like activity has not been isolated or identified.
