Metabolism of C19 Steroids by Homogenates of Kidney, Heart, Testes and Prostate

Abstract
The metabolism of ten C19 hydroxysteroids by kidney, heart, testes and prostate homogenates of male guinea pigs has been compared. The metabolites formed were isolated and characterized. A very wide variation not only in the metabolism of the steroids by the same tissues but also the different tissues was noted. Kidney contained the greatest activity, prostate showed practically no ability to oxidize any of the steroids and epitestosterone was not metabolized by any of the tissues.
