Abstract
An experimental method is proposed and used to measure the thermal pressure coefficient γ as a function of volume at the melting temperature of crystalline substances. This method was applied to linear hydrocarbons with 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 carbon atoms; values of the entropy increase due to volume expansion (ΔSv) and to conformational disorder on melting (ΔSc) were obtained.
