Abstract
Reliable measurements of the concentration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in serum or plasma are crucial for the effective clinical management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). New PTH assays that increase the specificity of such measurements are now available and are widely utilized. The current review summarizes key technical developments in the evolution of PTH assays. We also discuss the diagnostic value of various methods for measuring PTH in serum or plasma for the assessment of patients with renal bone disease. Keywords
