Secretion Defects That Activate the Phage Shock Response of Escherichia coli

Abstract
The phage shock protein (psp) operon of Escherichia coli is induced by membrane-damaging cues. Earlier studies linked defects in secretion across the inner membrane to induction of the psp response. Here we show that defects in yidC and sec secretion induce psp but that defects in tat and srp have no effect. We have also determined the cellular location of PspB and PspD proteins.Keywords
